Customer pages

What your customers see

Your customer never creates an account. Each invoice, estimate and payment link has its own page, reached from the email, where they can read it, download it, pay it or tell you a transfer is on its way. A link, not a login.

Customer's invoice page: illustrative example. A link, not a login. No account needed. Northline Studio is a fictional business; none of these figures are real.

The problem

Customers do not want another password

Portals that ask a customer to register before they can see an invoice add a hurdle to the one thing you want them to do, which is pay. What a customer needs is the document, the amount, a way to pay and a way to tell you they have. A link does all four without an account.

Step by step

How it works, in three steps

  1. You send the document

The email carries the PDF and a link to the page. No account, no password, no app.

  2. They open their page

The invoice or estimate as a branded page, with your details, their details and the amount due.

  3. They pay or report

Card or mobile payment on the spot, or a bank transfer reported with a receipt for you to confirm.

The invoice page

Everything they need to pay, nothing they need to remember

The page shows the invoice, offers the PDF, and presents the payment options you allow: card or mobile wallet through your own account, or your bank details for a transfer. If you allow part payments, the page asks how much. A customer who has paid by transfer reports it right there.

  • View and download the PDF
  • Pay by card or mobile wallet through your own Stripe or SSLCommerz account
  • Report a bank transfer with the amount, date, reference and a receipt

Estimates and links

The same idea for estimates and payment links

With the estimates module on, a customer reads the estimate on its own page and accepts or declines from a signed link. A payment link opens the same hosted payment page an invoice does. Every reminder email links straight back to the page it is about.

  • Estimate page with accept and decline, when the module is on
  • Hosted payment page for every payment link
  • One-click unsubscribe on every reminder, honoured immediately

Your brand

Your logo, your colours, optionally your domain

Pages carry your logo or letterhead and your document colours. With a custom domain set up for the workspace, they open on your own hostname with a certificate issued for it, and a privacy notice written for invoice recipients sits in the footer.

  • Logo, letterhead and brand colours on every page
  • Custom domain per workspace, optional
  • A privacy notice for recipients, who never agreed to anything with us

In practice

A practical example

Harbor & Pine Co. receives INV-1042 from Northline Studio by email. The bookkeeper opens the link, downloads the PDF for their records, and pays $1,250.00 by card. Nobody at Harbor & Pine created an account, chose a password or installed anything, and the page will still be there when they want the PDF again next quarter.

Outcomes

What you get

  • No customer accounts to create, reset or support
  • The page works from any device with the email open
  • Pay online or report a transfer from the same place
  • Estimates are decided from a signed link, with the decision recorded
  • Branded, and on your own domain if you choose

What it does not do

  • It is a link, not a login: there is no customer account, no history of every invoice, and no saved payment methods
  • It does not let a customer edit anything; the document is yours
  • It does not expose one customer's page to another; each link is unguessable and only ever shows its own document
